About the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) 

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is the leading professional and examining body worldwide specialising in management accountancy. CIMA seeks to promote the study and adoption of scientific methods in management accountancy as a means of securing maximum efficiency in industrial, commercial and public service undertakings. Only properly qualified and experienced persons are admitted to membership. CIMA is the voice of over 171.000 members and students in 165 countries.

Become a Chartered Management Accountant

Register with CIMA. This requires the completion of an online registration form and the payment of a registration fee of £58. There is also an annual subscription of £90 due on 1 January of each year.



Pass all 4 Levels of the CIMA examinations. The CIMA professional examinations are grouped into four Levels. The examinations are organised by CIMA in May and November each year and can be taken at a number of centres around the world. Exam fees are £50 to £92 per paper depending on the level.


Obtain at least three years relevant practical experience (RPE)
.
In addition to passing the exams, students must obtain at least three years' practical management accounting and wider business experience. Practical experience will need to be recorded in a Career Profile (CP). The practical experience requirements for membership are divided into three areas as follows:

Area 1 - Basic Experience covers:
Preparing and maintaining accounting records; statutory regulatory reporting; IT.
Area 2 - Core Experience covers:
Preparation of management accounts; planning, budgeting and forecasting; management reporting for decision making; product and service costing.
Area 3 - Supplementary experience covers:
Financial strategy; corporate finance; treasury management; taxation; business evaluation and strategy; external relationships.


Pre-Requisite entry requirements:

CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting, degrees in business or accounting, or AAT Technician/Diploma level
